I’ve spent the past 2 months working on a project for Nobel Learning Communities which oversees a network of more than 180 private schools in 19 states and the District of Columbia, covering preschool and K-12 students. I was hired by an ad agency in Baltimore (MGH) with the help of an independent producer. The idea was to provide high quality photography that captures the spirit of each of the 4 Northwest schools I was assigned and also represent the Nobel signature. I gathered a team comprised of a photo assistant and makeup/hair stylist for each photoshoot. While the client wanted editorial, authentic and natural photographs, they also wanted them to fit a multi-proportioned crop template to fit different electronic devices, so that I had to adjust my usual non-directing style to designing photographs for these applications - a challenge and almost a contradiction to my process of making pictures. The other component was working with each school principal to make sure I understood the important elements of their particular school culture. One thing I will say, this project featured more communication with all parties than I am used to but which I embraced.
